A collogue of animosity has saturated the land of the free and the home of the brave over peaceful protest; some are overt. Do you remember a few years ago when Jordan Sparks promoted the words, “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy” written on her wrist as she sang the national anthem during a football game in solidarity to protest against racial injustice. Those words signify a scripture in Proverbs 31:8-9. Why are you silent if you profess to follow the good book (bible)?
As believers, we are supposed to stand in the gap for individuals who are mistreated unjustly and for those in need, but as a society we know things are not right and we look away! There is nothing wrong with peaceful protest. Whether you agree or disagree with the strategy of protesting, let the power be with those who do. I believe when Colin Kaepernick initiated his stance for racial justice, he clearly stated it’s about racial injustice. I understand people desire to make his plight something else but it is about racial injustice.
Although it isn’t about the flag or the national anthem, as a person mixed with black and white, Kaepernick could protest the national anthem if he really wanted to in light of the national anthem being written during slavery; it is glorifying slavery. Colin Kaepernick would be well within his human rights not to like such an anthem. Please be mindful of how you would feel if this was part of your history. Also, those who are ignorant of the national anthem really need to research it for themselves.
