"If you would be truly free, if you would have an inheritance of dignity and equality for your children, you will register and vote." - Dr. King The trajectory of my apathetic stance always takes a turn for the better when I listen to my Aunt Mable share her stories of the south with me. My Aunt Mable is 101 years strong. Yes, she has experienced and lived through oppression, segregation and the Civil Rights era. She is history and she shares history with me! She is my Lula’s big sister. Aunt Mable is blessed. She can talk to you about politics, family, and religion. She can feed herself and able to care for herself, although she does have assistance in the mornings to help watch over her. She can also vote! She is a registered voter! I am gobsmacked at how God’s grace and mercy positively infects her life. There are so many folks who didn’t give up on their right to vote when it was exacerbated by the tallest barriers against them. It is one of the ONLY reasons I push myself to vote. I concede I am not that overjoyed with the state of our public officials nationwide, but there is always hope. We have a choice to partition that hope in the right direction. You are hope for someone who really needs it. Think about it! Please exercise your right to vote so that we can confront the laws and policies imperative for change!
