​Far across many rivers of inequality and injustice, this man always stands up for the freedom of black people since he was a young lawyer straight out of Harvard law school. I really appreciate the thick layers of his labor. There is real hope for those of you who think no one cares about your family members that are stuck in despair, who have no one to advocate for them in court, or for those of you who feel like things will always be the same. No it will not! Change is coming! There are folks like Bryan Stevenson who is using his skills as a public interest lawyer to make ways out of no way for many oppressed human beings tangled up high in our criminal justice system. He cares! I care! I may not know you but I do care! God has used brother Stevenson and others to work miracles. Kudos to those of you who are working behind the scene; also fighting the good fight of faith in helping those men and women who were wrongfully convicted, mistreated in prison, and those who are mentally ill in prison. There is nothing righteous about doing the wrong thing when you know it's not right! Sometimes (no all the time), we have to put our biases to the side as lawyers, judges and all those involved in the criminal cases of other people's lives, and do the right thing. As you would want the same for your family members. Reaping and sowing is real!

Mr. Stevenson is not just an amazing giant of mercy and grace for the thousands of men and women who are on death row, or falsely imprisoned, but he is an excellent orator, author, and passion of change! It is his passion for criminal justice reform that has given him the courage to fight and fend for those who otherwise would not be able to combat the ugly truths of the criminal justice system alone; especially for black people. The disparities and the numbers are prevalent as policies in criminal justice do affect black folks more than others, unjustly.

As founder and executive director of The Equal Justice Initiative, Stevenson is emancipating mass incarceration, racial and economic injustices, and protecting the rights of American citizens (black folks) in criminal justice, strategically and successfully, one case at a time. He might not win every case. Perhaps he is still a winner considering he brings national attention to the lives of those cases that needs the attention. Stevenson places those cases in the heart and conscience of America to bare witness to the injustices. Bryan Stevenson's gifts look good on him and he wears it powerfully well. Stevenson created a museum honoring all the black American citizens who have been lynched over the years. Of course there was some resistance to his research and work but he did proceed. There is nothing wrong with African Americans or black people remembering their past and honoring their history. There are others (Europeans) who do just that, and no one has a problem with them! Black History is American History.

One of Bryan Stevenson's books was turned into a movie. I saw the move "Just Mercy" and I encourage all of you to watch it. Jamie Fox and Michael B Jordan were the main characters in the movie. Please check it out. I pray the world produces more men and women like Bryan Stevenson. I believe more freedom fighters like him are certainly on the way! It might be you or you kids doing this work one day. Either way, I bequeath more power to you as enslavement dies, with liberty and justice for all!

James Hodge is definitely invited to the block party. He certainly empathizes with the plight of black folks and what they have to endure in criminal justice. In his 2 minute video James is letting the world know he condemns the murder of Ahmaud Arbery. The black community depicts Ahmaud's death as a mordern day lynching. Disturbingly, black folks can't go to college, have a barbeque, can't sell real estate and now can't go jogging without someone attacking them or killing them. James Hodge is also letting white America know that it's time for them to step up and hold the white community accountable. "Why do you need all those guns son?" Aren't you, or wouldn't you be curious as to why your man or son has a multitude of guns? Ahmaud was jogging in a predominantly white neighborhood when he was shot and killed. James has verbalized things black folks crave to say publicly and do say it. It's just sweeter when a white man can see what we've been experiencing for years. Since he is white it may be easier to swallow. I totally get it. If you see black people walking or jogging in your neighborhood, say nothing or say hello. If they look different from you and you are not used to that, take a big dip in saying nothing. Everything will be okay. Take a sip in minding your own business.That's it!

This is a black man by the name of Idris Elba. He is a British actor. He once tested positive for the corona virus. I get how we as a society want to be safe. We want all of our friends and family to be safe as well. We don't know all the facts. We just know the details they tell us and that can be questionable. Most of us are doing the prerequesites to ensure we are all safe. Social distancing is such a challenge when you are used to being around those you love all the time. There has been ongoing information articulating that black people have the highest cases of the corona virus and are dying faster from it. With that being said, I've noticed when I go for a morning walk sometimes, wypipo will move all the way to the end of the earth to avoid any contact with me. They are in fear of their lives in the presence of black folks. I so get! If the media is telling you these people have huge dips of some germ or virus, you wouldn't want to be near them. There is a right way to do anything. I was walking down the street the other day. I noticed a lovely white couple walking together. They had their mask near them but didn't have them on their faces. I was more than 6 feet away when I encountered them. When they saw me they put their mask on and walked all the way across to the other side of the street. I felt some kind of way but I so get it. I think it is kind of rude the way some of them act towards black people. For all I know, they could have the virus and I need to protect myself from them. 

 Our interest is still resistance ✊🏿 ✊🏾! June has not ended yet. I am dedicating this second edition of Black Music Month again, to the current insurrection of liberation going on in light of the recent cries for justice. We want the liberty and justice that America wrote down on paper to come alive in black folks lives. If you enjoy listening to good music you can always find some of the best in our culture. Black Music Month is exactly what it states. It is designed to esteem black music and black culture. I could not get enough of that new Buddy black excellence song. Oh my goodness! I promise, I listen to that song like 50 billion times a day. As noted in the HuffPost, the inception for June to be selected as Black Music Month came from President Jimmy Carter. It was further pushed into legislation by music producer Kenny Gamble and his ex-wife Mrs. Dyana Williams. Dyana is known as the Godmother of Black Music Month as noted
by Ebony.

How can black people have peace when our liberties are being hijacked by pain that is tearing us down mentally? This is a form of mental illness. If you don't think not being given the chance to be seen as human beings, but a target, a thug or anything other than Yah's child hasn't affected the mental state of black people (especially black men) you are mistaken. The weight of white supremacy is too great a burden to bare. Institutionalized oppression authorized to continue, does affect a person's mental health. What if this issue were reversed. I hate to put it in this perspective but white people would be mad as hell if a bunch of black police officers controlled their cities. Let's not even mention if they were the majority in their cities. White folks would never tolerate black men who are charged with serving and protecting white communities continue to kill their men and boys without any repercussions. Just let that sink in. What do you think would happen? Those black officers would go straight to jail! I repeat, that black man would go straight to jail! The police unions would be in support of it and so would the politicians. It would be the right thing to do! Tell me why there is a big fat difference when white officers show no restraint with black folks? If a black cop was unwise to use an illegal choke hold one time on any white civilian, the way this European system was written and set up, it would have been the last and final time he ever did that. On the flip side we've seen this happen to black men like Eric Garner and now the murder of George Floyd. They both expressed to officers they could not breathe but was ignored. Please give attention to your local politicians. Those local judges and your district attorneys work for you! Their politics affect you! You have every right to demand they do right by you and your community if you see something wrong with their policies! Vote them out of office if you don't like their leadership!

The music and lyrics in this song is so beautiful to me. The residue of Jim Crow and the strongholds of white supremacy is definitely bigger than just black and white. This battle is for whites and black folks to fix. This problem is so much more deeper than just police brutality. It is about the lives of a group of people who are not given the same rights to have the pursuit of happiness; who are not permitted to breathe freely in their daily lives, in business or in their professions; in their communities without having to get in a boxing match over something that should come natural. It is about mass incarceration and this criminal justice system. Why are some of these injustices even allowed to exist? The purpose of giving two people with the same crime different sentences happens too often. It is no secret to those who can change it with a stroke of their pens. It is no secret to the black community either. This kind of white supremacy affects our families. I don't know why that judge hasn't been removed. Attorneys make the plea deals but the judges have to approve the deals. It is deeper than just black and white! They would rather lock them up, instead of educating American men and women in the black community. It's about not knowing all the white folks who take off their hoods (kkk) before they come to work with us, do business with us, or serve us in the medical and judicial sector. They serve in a lot of public service jobs and private too. They put their hoods back on so we don't know who they are. White folks don't ever have to worry about this kind of thing! If there were more Europeans incarcerated, they would find a way to help keep their families together, not break them apart. Why is this permissible to do to black people? We all have to go through test and trials in this world but to have the color of your skin add on more weight to your life, is not conducive to your humanity. No person or people are superior to any other. That is false hope!

We have all these wonderful men and women of every nationality who make up congress. I want to acknowledge there are some politicians who are proactive in fighting for equal rights for all people. There are also those who just do not care! Their apathy is boldy shown on the democratic and on the republican side. Oh, yes! There needs to be another party formed! Maybe we need to form our own. They never truly cared about any black agenda. If they did, black folks would not be in this predicament right now. This should have been fixed when Emmett Till was murdered! The republicans and democrats are guilty of letting it go on and on until the break of dawn, like a number one hit hip-hop song! How do they sleep when the rest of the world is hurting and crying for their freedoms? Shame on you all! I say vote them all out and start fresh! The crazy thing is, there is already a document that we are supposed to follow, to keep us all in check. It is called the constitution. Why aren't we following it? Why in 2020 do black people have to endure the exact same things Martin, Malcolm, Ali, and so many other influential voices spoke out against? Why are there major violations towards the infringement of our rights as a people? There should be a black agenda on every politician's plate in every state. America it is time, we are exhausted!

The struggle for black freedom and liberation in plenty-many nations continues on the menu. We are not giving up! We are just getting started! We refuse to keep this sickness living around for our kids and our grandbabies. No way, no how. As a society we can learn a lot from our children. They are pure. They do not see race as a bad thing. They may notice how other children look a little different from them but they do not see a problem with playing with each other unless they are told and taught that they are better, or it is wrong!! The year of 2020 will go down in the history books as being the most prolific protest all over the world, in all 50 states. It will say something like, young and old whites and black people stood side by side to fight for black liberation, sending a cogent message to the government to change their laws and write up new legislation to include black people's humanity in it. White supremacy has to go! Once upon a time maybe it had a comfortable place in America, not anymore. We are serving full time notice to let the world know, that kind of antediluvian thinking is over!

We want the same rights promised to us by your constitution. We declare! There is a shift coming. Get ready to turn with the shift! If you are professing to be a member of the Christian faith, or any religious deity as a European (calling you out) and are secretly or openly treating folks ungodly because of their skin color, you might want to check your biblical references. If we are all supposed to be brothers and sisters in the eyes of the creator, why are you so quiet about the injustices going on with your African American family members. Black folks historically and now, are being attacked spiritually with the spirit of white supremacy. Why are you all so quiet? Silence means you are okay with it. I do know there are those who are not silent but I am speaking to those who are. We need all warfare in place because these are spirits that must be cast down. I know Father Pfleger and Kirk Franklin are not the only ones who can use their spiritual platforms to aid in the battle for human rights, liberty and justice for black people. We need all faiths and all folks on board to not remain silent. Thank you!

Create your own perfect 2020; define your own; be your own. YOU DEFINE YOU, NOT THEM.

It is time for you to create 20 more new things in your family's bloodline. Create your own traditions or have none at all if you feel like it. This is your life! Do it! It is not about other folks, it's about you and your family.

Exercise financial responsibility; try to purchase more with cash at least 20 times this year. Make a budget plan for financial security; for emergencies.

Divorce routines and change it up a bit.Take your wife, spouse or significant other on a surprise vacation. Bring your wife chocolates and flowers at least 20 times this year! :0)

Listen to 20 other programs like talk radio and different genres of music. Try gospel music. Don't forget your favorite podcast.

Mind your own business and work on being your BEST self. Worry more about your own self! You can’t fix or change people. I promise, God can do a better job!

Try to always pray first before you give advice to others. If the subject does not pertain to any experience you can give, do not open your mouth. Refer the people to someone who can really help them.

Pray more! Spend time seeking God or your higher power for your life. I call that the spirit of God.

Life really is a long shadow of short! Stop taking people for granted! Tell 20 people you love them this year! To all the people (family and friends) I know reading this... "I LOVE YOU GUYS." I shol do :)

It's time to at least give your own people a try...dang! This year try to support 20 African American businesses. Support people and businesses who support you and your community. If they do not, STOP supporting them.

Take care of your families and communities; men and women! It is your job! Watch out for each other! You are the community! “I do that.”  Well, please do it even more! Thank yaaa!

Touch and agree more with other believers 20 more times this year. This world needs your spiritual covering. Pray more together. Create your own birthday prayers for your loved ones.

Treat people the way you want to be treated. How could you be a ___________ (um, yeah, fill in the blank) and treat people's ______ that way? I know this is an old adage but some people have escaped from receiving the message.

There is nothing wrong with you relaxing to your favorite television show. Go ahead and watch television but also remember to feed your mind with reading things that are of interest to you. Read a lot more this year!

When it gets warmer try to walk more instead of always driving. Your body would really love that! 

Create a Vision Board! Do it and the universe will open up to you, writing your visions and making it plain. Things are about to happen for you. You're attracting it!  

Don't give your power nor your voice to anyone in this new decade. Yes, I know some of you are apathetic to certain leaders and politicians. I encourage you to get politically active. It's very imperative.

A lot of you guys really need to chill out on the road. Texting and driving plus driving very hostile is not worth the physical and emotional damage it gives you.

This is a new category I created during the last quarter of 2019, surrounding the ingredients of Instagram. I am always striving to do different things on SFM. This controversial piece is kind of like my Twitter Tweets of The Week. I cruise around Twitter and talk about many random things trending but this time it will be with post from Instagram. This lady is really trying to cry wolf over her role in locking up 5 innocent young men by suing Ava DuVernay over her Netflix film about the real life stories of the Exonerated 5? I am sure plenty-many folks in the black community wish her well in reaping what she has definitely sowed. I hope "When They See Us;" when they pull us over, when they interact with us in the public, when they legally have to arrest us, when we are in their care, justice is administered without racial bias and if not, they are held accountable for their actions. This is what happened to the Exonerated 5 as young teen boys. There was a lot of racial injustice going on with Korey Wise, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana, Antron McCray, and Kevin Richardson. When will this die? It is still happening. I am waiting for the day when all judges, lawyers, and all the folks wrapped up in the criminal justice system, can see little black boys and girls like they see little white boys and girls. They too could be your child, sister or brother, your niece, your nephew, your neighbor or child's friend. Unfortunately, when it comes to black folks, they are seen as different and given harsher punishments than their white counterparts. All in the name of their skin being their sin and because of some folks not liking them for it. They are human beings, subject to error just like you! If Linda Fairstein was the lead prosecutor in the case (and she was) how is it possible that she didn't know minors were being interrogated without their parents? Also, please explain why Korey Wise went to jail for nothing? Girl bye! It all happened on your watch Linda, as the leading prosecutor. Karma is real! I wish Ava well!

This next Instagram post had me very perplexed. According to this story, the mom didn't even sign for her son to go on a school trip and they lost the little 3 year old boy. The people in charge was either high on those marijuana brownies or just lost track of this little guy. It does happen. As parents, this is something that will make your heart stop if you received a phone call that your school lost your child on a field trip you didn't even consent to! There are a lot of legalities that need to be addressed. Thankfully the little boy is safe but with all the child snatching and trafficking, you have to stay alert PEOPLE!

Okay, this sounds quite familiar. A woman in North Carolina has renounced her story that 5 black men who were teen boys at the time in 2002, did not have any criminal part in killing a man by the name of Nathaniel Jones. She apologized for her lie and she cried remorsefully. She articulated that the Winston-Salem police detectives coerced her into making false statements and that she was afraid for her life. Those who knew the truth should be held accountable. The aroma in the atmosphere smells quite clear to those folks who have lived through the era of "now and then" which consisted of Jim Crow, more hate, and more inequality, coupled with injustices. Where do you think the residue of that era has landed?  It is still so easy to blame black boys or men for crimes they didn't commit. The benefit of the doubt is not given. Why? You don't want me to tell you why! You know why? I hope and pray the North Carolina Innocence Inquiry Commission rights the wrongs of these men. These American citizens all need to be free and compensated.

Joe Biden says he would hire a woman (um, like Stacy Abrams) to be his vice president and folks are at a disbelief. A lot of black and white folks like sleepy Joe, as President Trump calls him (lol= laughing out loud). Okay that was funny. Joe also has a lot of Republican cronies which he has said will help him get things done in a bipartisan manner. I hope he will consider Stacy because some of Joe Biden's past policies were not conducive to black folks smiles rather frowns. She could help spread the difference he is missing. Some people think Biden made that statement to get votes. Politicians all stretch the truth and some do flat out lie. I surmise you have to select the best person you think aligns with your beliefs and who can best serve the needs of your community. Stacy would be great though. It would be historic if a qualified woman was vice president.

I don't like watching these videos or hearing about it but I can't ignore it. These are the kind of stories that need to be in your face. Especially for the folks who don't want to try to understand the racial issue we have in America and for those who are quick to say, "There you go pulling the race card." These officers gave the profession such an ugly stain. They make it hard for other officers who serve and do their job the right way daily. Why is it, when a police officer makes a mistake and it's evident it is erroneous, why can't they just say "I'm sorry?" That shows professionalism and humility. This man in this video post was minding his own business after coming from a restaurant with family and then this happened. Even if they did have the right person, their conduct was totally unacceptable. These Sacramento police officers had no right to do what they did. I hope they are held accountable. Did you notice how one officer kicked the man in the back and then the other one jumped off of his feet to harm him with all of his might?  Was this necessary? Would they want their kids, wives and family to see them acting like this as officers on the job? I hope no! Is this how we serve and protect the taxpayers who are paying the salaries of these officers? All they had to do was ask for identification. They had the wrong man! Dang, can we be given the benefit of the freaking doubt? This has got to stop.

Another one bites the dust in Miami! Those darn college kids were enjoying themselves at the beach then came the boom...bam..bang interjection. Again we have a lot of young people who appear to be of all races but the concentration of abuse is somehow focused on the black young man in this particular video. The officers were dispersing the crowd as they have a right to do. There were lots of officers. In the video you see a young man who was frustrated about how the officer was talking to them. All of a sudden an attack breaks out with a few officers holding down one young man.  Anytime you see a crowd of officers telling you to leave the premises you should. But was all of that necessary? No!

As you've noticed, all of my Instagram post have come from Mr. DL Hughley. In this post DL is speaking about how unprepared President Trump was for this virus that suddenly hit us hard. What do you think? Was President Trump unprepared? Listen carefully.

"The best thing to be at a time like this is GHETTO." I can personally say I am in agreement with this statement. Check out why this ​was stated. There are some folks who tend to look down on people who are poor or low-income. These are the survivors. They are the ones who are able to cope well during the good times and in the bad times. It doesn't matter how the economy is doing. They will teach you how to make a dollar out of 15 cents. In this particular Instagram post, Mr. Lenard McKelvey (Charlamagne tha God) is offended by the fact someone would challenge the strength of a people often stigmatized as "ghetto." You can't change the color of your skin. Wherever you were born is part of your roots. It is where you came from. Yes you can change your income status and lifestyle but it is something you should not be ashamed of. You have the power to elevate your life to what you deem is better. Some folks have higher incomes but prefer to live in the hood or the ghetto. Some do not and they move for the betterment of their own liking and especially for their kids. We don't have the right to judge why they leave and why some stay. Just try to live your best life! 

This was supposed to be some kind of Corona challenge amidst all the self isolation. Trevor Noah thought he'd get in on the fun by singing one of my favorite songs from the Titanic movie. Laughter is good for your heart. Especially during these unknown times. Be merry and be well everyone! New York was NOT having it! LMBO (Laugh my butt off)! For the record when you abbreviate something, please do not assume your readers know what it means. Spell it out!

Listen to how President Trump talks to the reporter when she is just simply asking a question as a journalist. He tells her that her question is a "nasty question". He feels attacked by her question. This is just a taste of what is to come in this video. There is a man who claims Trump fired the man in charge of infection and disease control. Wow! Trump stated he is a business man and really didn't need all of those folks taking up space!

Stuff like this makes me want to not patronize companies who do foolish things like this. Corporate greed indeed. Yes Clint Smith, this is a problem! They can afford to pay their workers vacation/sick time and any other worker who needs vacation/sick time. No other employee should have to donate their vacation time to save other workers. Whole Foods you should and you can do better. Just write it off on your taxes. That is what you do any ole way! Incidentally I didn't shop at Whole Foods that much but I dont' think I want to shop there at all now. In the midst of a national crisis you guys need to do right by those men and women who helped to promote and cultivate your BRAND name!

Dr. Nina's Power is oh so Pretty as a family doctor. Dr. Nina is the apotheosis of positive affirmations and energy. She has that "gone girl" sophistication running all through her veins. Gone girl!

It's quite alright to bring sexy back after five o'clock or after your work shift has ended. Dr. Nikki understands how obedience to God's plan gave her the vision to be what she was predestined to be. She even played a part in manifesting it, now ya see! Gone girl!

She just wants to kiss your face with her healing graces for your hair, skin, and nails as a doctor of dermatology. No wonder why her skin is so healthy. She specializes in psoriasis. If you have a need Dr. Robinson can help you defeat it as she treats it. Gone girl!

Dr. Oma Fearlessly makes it known that she is an adult woman who works hard and enjoys her life to the fullest. There is a time and a place for everything and she represents self-care and self-love organically. Yes, look at her! You can do it too! Gone girl!

Deprivation permeated the nation as free black labor was terminated. Praise the Lord! Some white folks didn't want slavery (free labor) to end, and this is how the story began. June 19, 1865 is known as Black Independence Day. Black folks in Galveston, Texas were completely freed from slavery. Black people everywhere was lifting every fist to sing in freedom. The slaves in Galveston, Texas found out a few years later in the month of June (Juneteenth). Black folks were allowed to pursue some form of their freedoms. General Gordon Granger is accountable for the good news. He informed the enslaved they would no longer be oppressed and inhumanely supervised. President Lincoln wrote a historic document called the Emancipation Proclamation in January of 1863 aborting slavery throughout the United States of America. Galveston rejected the news of the memo. In light of not having enough representation of Union soldiers to enforce the new law in the state of Texas, the slave owners in Galveston opposed the law. The slave masters in Texas did not want to let all that free labor go! They just could not rearrange their brains for the change. I'm very sure the spirit of white supremacy was thriving and surviving. It is the number one reason why they did not obey the rules of the land. Why wasn't it enforced in every state? The same reason why black folks are still fighting for their human rights as American citizens in 2020, that's why. The same reason why some police officers can murder black unarmed people and get away with it, that is why. In order for black people to be truly free, it's imperative for white supremacy to die. Please understand that the original plan for freedom and justice was excluded from black people, especially the black man. In 1776 our forefathers were slaves. We were framed to be less than equal, and the sequel has continued on the menu. For centuries of black folk's tears, bloodstains in years, and the tireless fight to get civil rights is the same reason. 

How are you going to get mad when people don't stand for an American flag that don't even honor its own American citizens, who pay taxes, and are not fully treated as American equals. Ever since black people of African descent were kidnapped from their homeland and brought to this American nation, raped in European colonization, they ain't never been given full access to the same rights as white people. For the record some were already here. All of them were NOT on that slave ship. They all know it! Preachers know it but will not show it. A blind man can see it. Politicians have witnessed the difference but for some reason are not willing to put on the armor of courage to make the difference. Why? It took the death of George Floyd for the other part of America to realize that all lives do not matter unless black lives matter. I am hopeful for the legislation that is coming. I am thankful to know we have folks of all skin colors who are on the right side of history fighting together to make changes.

This is why we celebrate June 19th. This is why we organize and fight against those who wish to cut off our freedoms. Juneteenth is not taught in American history, but it should be. America has not fully dealt with, slavery. America has that same old face and that same old taste. America, you need to change! The systems purposely put in place are working just as planned. We (you) need to dismantle them all, America.

BLACK DIRTY EYES

Claire McDermoth and her husband John are 3rd generation European, criminal lawyers. They have seven kids on purpose by design. They are both in their late thirties. Their parents and grandparents are lawyers. Claire often articulates to students, colleagues, and to friends about the circumstances that compelled her into becoming the lawyer she is today. John and Claire McDermoth are proud Christians. They are involved in a multitude of high-profile cases. They serve underprivileged communities by doing Pro Bono. Claire and John own their own law firm together. They successfully help to change laws and lives, particularly for black people in criminal justice. They are asked to come to a prestigious law school to speak to law students and participate in a question-and-answer panel, as they often do.

Law Professor (Man):
It is with great honor to welcome you all to the 56th Annual “These Truths” Law Conference. Today you will be able to gain profound insight and wisdom as we embark on receiving Mr. and Mrs. McDermoth. Please keep questions to a limit of 2 minutes.

Law Student one (Female):
I am aware of the several books you've published. I wanted to know why you chose to study law and how you and Mr. McDermoth met. I also know about the Police Patrol Act. I am so excited to be a participant of that. Inspiration and courage is what you have given me. I am going to model my entire legal career after you. I believe in everything you are doing and have done to make our society more righteous and inclusive for all people. Can you please tell us how the Police Patrol Act was started?
                                                                                                                   
Claire:
Thank you very much! I am truly humbled. I'll just answer for both of us since we are short of time. John and I were destined to be together. Our families are both from the South. We grew up together as neighbors and childhood friends. I don't speak about my personal life too much as an author for personal reasons. John and I come from a family of lawyers on both sides. We've been exposed to certain people, stories and situations. Both of our great grandparents were very racist, but they were practicing Christians. Their parents were slave owners. I am thankful my parents are the antithesis of my grandparents and their own grand- parents mentality. My mom and dad made a great choice to teach my siblings and I right from wrong, despite race or skin color. I absolutely see ugly stains of race and racism in everything. I've seen the lack of care black people received in the medical field. I've seen how economically uneven the playing field is for people who are not white. I know how heavy the weight of white supremacy has been on the backs of African American people, especially the men. My mom is the biggest influence in my life. She grew up in the fifties and sixties. She is my hero. She marched with Dr. King. My mother was very active in the Civil Rights Movement to liberate people that were being oppressed. I became passionate about those same causes. I am assigned by God to do the work I am doing. I am as bold as a lion to see African Americans who are treated less than human obtain freedom. We have family in law enforcement, as politicians and a lot of judges on both sides. I lobbied incessantly for the Police Patrol Act to become a law in the United States. It was time to dismantle the thickness of a system that was purposely racist and designed to keep non-white folks down. I had to do something about all the lives being flushed away right in our faces. The smell was bad! I could not have done it without a host of friends and family. I also had lots of law students and undergraduate students who were simply tired of the same old American hypocrisy. Together we did it! We used our white privilege to change indifference. You guys can do the exact same thing! Right now, in all 50 states, when a police officer arrest and interrogates American citizens, by law, an attorney and law student have to be present to observe. The law students who are practicing criminal law are given a stipend by the state for their service and school credit. We have seen a 90% decrease in false confessions, brutality, and in lawsuits. We the people, demanded that they change. I also see all people as God's creation. All life is meaningful. John went to Harvard. I chose Duke University.

Law Student two (Female):
I heard you and your husband worked as police officers before you went to law school for a few years? Can you speak on that? Is it true you have 7 kids? How do you manage family life and balance running a very efficacious law firm? You are one of the most loved individuals. There are also plenty of white people who loathe what you are doing. How do you handle all of that?

Claire:
Yes, John and I strategically had a 3–5-year plan to work as police officers then we planned on going to law school. We did it for 3 years. It prepared us with a really good head start in criminal law.  We do have 7 blessed kids together. We have identical twin girls and 5 boys. We have the best supportive family you could ever ask for. Although some don't believe in or like the work we do in our families, they adore our children. I have a domination type of mind-set. If I set my mind to do anything it happens. I was pregnant with twins when I graduated from law school and passed the bar. John and I will ensure our legacy remain a solid foundation. All 7 of our children will be lawyers or work in the legal field by any means necessary. I faithfully could care less about all the white people who are afraid to live in their truth. Superiority is a lie our founding fathers gave birth to. Each time racism reigned whites were trained to do nothing about some of the things caused by them. There is a quote that I positively live bye. "The time is always ripe to drown the darkness and produce more light." God told me to let my light shine! That is what I intend on doing. I don't care who doesn't like it. Nothing can stop or block what God told me to rock, quite well! They can take that up with God! That is how I handle them. Thank you for your questions.

Law Student three (Male):
You mentioned earlier that law students and lawyers watch over the behaviors of the police. Do you hate police officers or something? I read a few of your books and I wasn't all that impressed. You didn't even really explain the process of the law you got passed. I want to know from you, as a white woman, why are you devoted to helping black people? Let their own people handle their issues. What about your own people? Blacks kill blacks all the time. They only have it hard because of the choices they make. I'm really curious as to why your entire life mission is focused on these black people.

Claire:
Excuse me, may I ask where are you from?

John:
Honey I can answer this one?

Claire:
No sir, I've got this John.

Law Student three (Male):
Where I am from is not relevant. Please just answer the questions. I have a class in 20 minutes. 

​Claire:
As far as the Police Patrol Act, students are on standby at all police stations. There are thousands of law students in various states. The curriculum allows for students to rotate their schedules, so they still have time for law school and the job. They are individualIy placed in police stations waiting, evaluating, and interfering as counsel if they have to. I've come across white men like you at all times, my European blarney brother. No, to your second question. I do not hate the police. I have a history of slave patrols back then and police officers right now in my bloodline. What I dislike is when men and women who are supposed to serve and protect only feel that obligation towards white people. Somehow, they are filled to the brim with fear of black people. Of course, if there is no guilt, you do not have to apply any defensiveness to my application because you're the cop I am not talking about. I was an officer for a few years. I don't know if you didn't hear that part. I disapprove of anyone using their authority as an officer to murder and abuse. Your opinion or perspective of black people is severely skewed. As I mentioned previously, I am on a mission. My husband and I are doing God's work. For too long white people have stood by and did nothing. So yes, I do love helping black men and women in court. I get that unspeakable joy when I am able to obtain their freedom and overturn bogus cases for them and their families. I have helped poor white families as well, but my purpose, destiny, and assignment are African Americans in criminal justice.

When I was around 6 years old, I went to the park with a family friend. She used to babysit me. I met a 6-year-old black boy who was there with his siblings. His siblings were like 9 or 10. My babysitter was 16 or 17. Keep in mind that this was in the 80s, not 1920 or 1950. I didn't know it then, but my babysitter told her friends to meet her at the park as well. I begin to play with this little black boy in a mixture that was mostly dirt but also a little sand. We were kids. So of course, we didn't see a problem with us playing together. He had beautiful grey eyes and golden dark brown skin. Abruptly, the babysitter male friends came by me and the little boy. They started calling him the N***r word repeatedly. Then they boldly started throwing the dirt in his eyes. I started screaming "He is my friend, stop it! Leave him alone!" He had blood all in his head and in his eyes because the dirt we were playing in had little particles of glass. When his brothers and sisters came over to get him, they were beaten up by the three older teens. It was the most crying I had ever done in my life. I felt the pain this little black boy endured, and I couldn't do anything about what was happening. After the little boy fainted from them rubbing and throwing dirt in his face and eyes they ran off. My scared babysitter was such a coward. She snatched me and ran off with me. I will never forget that day. My devotion and work in criminal justice is my way of helping out every little black boy, man, woman, and girl who continues to get the residue of Jim Crow and white supremacy dirt stuck in their eyes. It's hard to get out. You know why? I'll tell you why, because white people like my babysitter and the ignorance of men like you, don't want to get it out. Then you have the audacity to fix your mouth to say they bring all of their woes and hardship on themselves. Well, your white privilege has you so very conditioned to believing that. I feel sincerely sorry for you. It couldn't possibly be that black people are socially, politically, and economically left out of equality verses what you have as a white man. It's not enough that lots of black people like Martin Luther King tried their best to get the white society to see black people as American citizens who only wanted the same human rights as their European brothers and sisters. Black people cannot do it alone. They have tried to handle it. Do you know anything about Black History? We need our own white people to step up! The root of the problem stems from European institutions and policies that we put in place, excluding black people. Wickedness and hatred have made itself way too greedy and comfortable in American culture, making money lusting in criminalizing, oppressing, and demonizing black people.

Guess what? Most white people know this is the truth. They feel uncomfortable about it. If you are not doing anything wrong, as a white person, you should not feel attacked. I am not talking about you. If the shoe fits wear it. I am definitely talking about you! I will gladly use my platform and influence to continue getting all of that dirt out of black people's eyes. I have been doing my best work of dirt removal. I will continue to do it. Oh, and this is going to shock you all. When I went to Duke University Law School, guess who I reconnected with? The little boy who I met at the park, playing in the dirt with. We graduated together. I was supposed to go to Harvard with John, but God told me to stay local. I understood why after I hooked back up with Damari. I named one of my boys Damari! His spirit is so calm. Damari is a partner at our firm, and we've been playing dirty for a long time now, taking dirt out of many eyes worldwide! How can we call black people and other people of color American citizens when they do not have the exact same rights as American citizens?
