Even in the midst of war between Russia and Ukraine, racism takes no days off. International students (Africans, Asians and Middle Eastern) are being targeted by their nationality and discriminated against from fleeing a war zone. Granted, yes Ukrainian women and children should be taken care of first. There is room for all to flee and no excuse for using physical abuse against other people and students who are not white! The question is what these other countries are doing for their people? Hello Africa, Asia, and Middle Eastern folks where are you? The United Nations is encouraging neighboring communities to open up their borders to the African citizens, but this doesn't seem to be registering for those non-white people. We know in America they pick and choose who they are going to help. All people who are refugees should be helped regardless of skin color. What is the lesson in this? I can tell you! If you are a melanated person and there is any kind of disruption in your country or in the world beyond your control, you will be affected by it more than any other group. Racism has no days off.
Ketanji Brown Jackson is currently Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. Ms. Jackson was selected by President Joe Biden on February 25, 2022, as his final choice to serve on the United States Supreme Court. Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson will be the first American Black woman and the third Black American to rock and apply the rule of law to the highest court at the age of 51. Ketanji Brown Jackson reminds me so much of Bryan Stevenson. They both went to Harvard. They are both marvelous freedom fighters of justice. Judge Jackson was a federal public defender. If you want to know more about Judge Jackson, read! Unlike the biased rants from Tucker Carlson and plenty of others who are against Judge Jackson becoming a US Supreme Court Justice, it doesn't matter what they say! Judge Jackson is certified! Ketanji will be on that bench with all of her black girl magic! All of the brown skin girls will be in unity all over the world cheering her on to victory!
I know they believe that in order for them to continue to reign as the dominant society, their oppression has to remain. I do know it won't always be this way. There are young people of all shades and colors, not just black or white who are watching these historical moments! They are not in alliance with racism or white supremacy! They're not cool with white men wanting to bully and control every single thing and everybody. You can't stop this change! Judge KBJ (Ketanji) will be confirmed, ase'. I pray for more melanated parents to influence their kids to become lawyers and judges so that we can have a full seat at the table of public policy!
Finally! The joy has come in the morning and a lynching legislation bill has come to pass! America has no shame! This fight only took over 200 years. It has been tangled up by nothing more or less than white supremacy. Three republican men were in opposition of the bill! Hmmm, I wonder why they opposed it?
On March 1, 2022, President Biden gave his first State of The Union speech. He skipped over lots of important needs that would have been beneficial to people in my community. Biden, what the heck happened to your promise to end solitary confinement in our prison system? It really should have ended yesterday. Does justice reform ring a bell? I wouId have been sitting down the entire time if I was in congress. All I heard was a lot about giving the police more money and not defunding them. I did not hear Biden say anything about professional conduct police should follow. Police officers that abuse their power in black and brown communities should have been mentioned for solutions. I'm specifically talking about black people. Cutting childcare, Ukraine aid, and inflation was also in his speech. Those making under $400,000 will not pay a penny in new taxes. Ok but what about the normal average taxpayers who make under $100,000. Why do they pay higher taxes? In Illinois taxpayers pay the same taxes as millionaires. If you only make 85,000 a year or 55,000 you are in the same tax bracket with people who make millions. Truly unjust at best.
How are we going to build a better America when student loan debt is still high, and inflation is boldly having its way at gas stations and in the hard-working folks in America? Who do these politicians think they are working for? I hope it's not just their friends and family. They appear to be out of touch with the American people. An average family is not making $400,000 a year. Yes, sure, some single people or couples are but those who need the most help are not in that tax bracket so, what about them? The State of The Union is strong declared by Biden as he ended his speech. I was so not impressed. I think he forgot the melanin that put him in that office.
In the State of Illinois Cook County is known as "Crook County" due to episode after episode of politicians giving the state that stigma. I surmise people like Mr. Madigan probably never thought he would be caught. I don't know why. After he has served 38 years (too long) as the Speaker of the House Michael J. Madigan has been charged with 22 counts of racketeering and bribery. There is no other state that has corruption leaking into our legislations and communities like the State of Illinois.
Here we go again! Please, before I delve into this mention you have to know that your hair is beautiful the way it is if you are a melanated person. It really should be a personal choice how we choose to wear our hairstyles. If you want to wear your mane naturally or the stringy straight way that helps some Caucasians feel comfortable, it should be your choice! Whatever happened to that famous song they love to sing and dance to, called diversity? As long as your hair (mane) is well-groomed there shouldn't be a problem at work or school. Dang! Can we just live and exist without all of this nonsense? Why waste time on attacking our hair. We will not conform. Especially when we don't have too. You need to adjust your spirit.
Student loans can be like a thorn stuck in your flesh! Whatever happened to free education? Depending on your loan type and the amount of money you had to borrow, it can take your entire life to pay them back. Seriously, there are doctors and lawyers who are doing exceptionally well, but they are still paying off their student loans. Unless your aunt is Oprah, and your uncle is Tyler Perry. There is always hope! Hope Chicago recently collaborated with five Chicago schools to send 4,000 students to college. Good news is always positive energy! Hope Chicago is a non-profit organization that sends deserving students to college for free. Yes, a full ride! Your "momma'em" (mom, dad, guardian) and family do not have to worry about your finances at all. We wish them well in debt free college degrees. They may have to create their own success, but it will be ok!
